Natalie Himles: A Jayco Family of Companies Pathfinder Embracing the RV Lifestyle

For Natalie Himles and her boyfriend Cody, the decision to become full-time RVers was more than just a desire for adventure—it was about reclaiming life on their own terms. After experiencing personal loss and realizing how short life truly is, they chose to break free from the corporate routine and embrace a life of travel and exploration. With their Jayco Jay Flight 212QB, they have created a lifestyle that balances adventure, connection, and personal growth.

A Life-Changing Decision

Like many, Natalie and Cody were caught in the endless cycle of work, sleep, and repeat. When they both lost their grandfathers within months of each other, it became a turning point. For the first time, they fully accepted that life isn’t forever and recognized the importance of making the most of the time they have.

Natalie had been working a long-term corporate job when she was offered a severance package. Instead of looking for another job, she saw it as an opportunity to take a leap into something new. Without hesitation, they decided to leave behind the traditional path and embark on an adventure that would change their lives.

Building a Life Around Adventure

With a shared love for hiking and exploring, their travels revolve around bucket list destinations and scenic trails. Over the past year, they have visited some of the most breathtaking places, including:

  • Grand Canyon – Experiencing the park in the snow, completely unprepared for the unexpected weather.
  • South Dakota – Taking a chance on a work camping opportunity that led to lifelong friendships.
  • Arizona’s Verde Valley – Enjoying a luxurious train ride through the stunning landscape.
  • Kanab, Utah – Staying within walking distance of incredible desert scenery.
  • Hoover Dam – Cold plunging and relaxing in hot springs along the Colorado River.

Looking ahead, they are most excited about visiting Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, and the Tetons.

Growth Through Travel

RV life has been more than just an opportunity to see new places—it has been a journey of personal growth. By stepping out of their comfort zones, they have become more confident, patient, and flexible. Living on the road has taught them to trust themselves, navigate challenges, and adapt to new experiences. It has also strengthened their relationship, bringing them closer as a couple.

Beyond personal growth, full-time RVing has brought unexpected benefits. With family members spread across the U.S., their lifestyle allows them to visit loved ones more often. The RV community has introduced them to inspiring people and opened doors to opportunities they never expected. The lifestyle is also more cost-effective than traditional travel, eliminating expenses like hotels, rental cars, and flights.

Their experiences on the road have also shaped their dreams for the future. One day, they hope to own a campground and create a space for other travelers to connect and explore.

The Reality of Full-Time RVing

Living on the road requires careful planning, especially when it comes to finding places to stay. As a natural planner, Natalie keeps track of their reservations months in advance using both virtual and physical calendars. Communication is key to ensuring they are always on the same page.

While Natalie considers herself a Modern Nomad, she recognizes that not all RVers fit the same mold. Some choose to live in an RV permanently but stay in one location due to affordability. She agrees with the term Weekend Warrior, appreciating those who make time for camping whenever possible, even if it’s only for short trips.

Unforgettable Moments on the Road

Life on the road has provided its fair share of unexpected and humorous moments. One of the most memorable was a shared gas station mishap with a fellow RVer. While trying to figure out how to make a U-turn, they noticed another traveler in an Airstream struggling with the same issue. They followed their lead, exchanged a friendly wave, and later realized there was a gas station on the correct side of the road all along.

Advice for Future Full-Time RVers

For those considering the RV lifestyle but feeling hesitant, Natalie encourages them to take the leap. She recommends starting small—renting an RV, going on a short trip, or finding ways to experience the lifestyle before making a full commitment. The unknown can be intimidating, but it’s also where the greatest experiences happen.

Adjusting to full-time RVing comes with challenges, but giving yourself grace is essential. Some days will feel like a dream, while others will bring frustration and doubt. Taking things one step at a time makes the transition easier.

One of the biggest surprises for Natalie was realizing that not as many things break as she originally thought, allowing her to bring her favorite belongings without worry. She also learned that finances tend to work out with careful planning, making the lifestyle more sustainable than she initially expected.
