The Touring Torres's: A Jayco Family of Companies Pathfinder Embracing the RV Lifestyle

The Beginning of the Journey

For Jamison Torres and his family, the decision to embark on a full-time RV lifestyle was not made lightly. Two years ago, they purchased their first RV, a Jayco Jay Flight, igniting a passion for travel that soon evolved into a way of life. They longed to break free from the structured routine of 50+ hour work weeks, back-to-back extracurricular activities, and the fleeting moments spent together as a family. Fast forward to today the family since has purchased a 2024 Jayco Whitehawk 29BH to explore the country’s vast landscapes, experience new ecosystems, and immerse themselves in the rich history of the United States—all while strengthening their family bond.

The Unexpected Benefits of RV Life

One of the biggest surprises in their journey was the strong sense of community among RVers. Initially, they feared they would lose their local connections, but instead, they found an entirely new network of like-minded travelers. Whether full-timers, weekend warriors, or somewhere in between, the RV community has been nothing but welcoming and supportive.

The Torres family has also found that having their home on wheels provides them with unmatched flexibility. They can park their RV near national parks, state parks, or major cities and easily explore after work and school. Their backyard changes frequently, and with it, their appreciation for the beauty of the world around them continues to grow.

Exploring America’s Most Breathtaking Destinations

The Torres family has already visited some incredible destinations, with a few standing out among the rest:

  • Natural Bridge, VA – A town they had never heard of before, but exploring its namesake state park and witnessing the Natural Bridge formation was truly awe-inspiring.
  • Pigeon Forge, TN – While they had read about the area, nothing compared to the experience of seeing the Great Smoky Mountains tower in the distance.
  • Future Travels – In 2025, they plan to focus on the East Coast National Parks, with the Great Smoky Mountains at the top of their list. Ultimately, their dream is to head west and stand among the towering Redwoods.

A Day in the Life on the Road

Life on the road still involves work and school, but it comes with the added bonus of adventure. A typical day for the Torres family looks something like this:

  • Morning starts with breakfast, followed by homeschool and work.
  • By early afternoon, they head out to explore—whether that means hiking, canoeing, fishing, or engaging in a local cultural experience.
  • Some days are spent exploring bustling cities, trying new foods, or visiting museums.
  • Of course, there are also quiet days spent at the RV, watching movies or catching up on errands.

The Travel Style That Works Best

Rather than constantly being on the move, the Torres family has found a balanced travel approach that works best for them. They aim to travel no more than 350 miles per trip, staying in one location for one to two weeks before moving on. This allows them to fully explore an area without succumbing to travel burnout.

When it comes to planning, Jamison admits he is 100% a planner. While he admires those who can simply go where the wind takes them, he prefers knowing their destination in advance. His go-to planning tool? RV Trip Wizard, which helps him map out RV-safe routes, fuel stops, and campground reviews. He also logs each stay in their Apple calendar to keep track of locations and ensure smooth travels.

Lessons Learned and Advice for Future RVers

As a full-time RVer, Jamison has learned valuable lessons along the way:

  1. Take it slow. While it’s tempting to visit as many places as possible, travel burnout is real. Slowing down allows for more meaningful experiences.
  2. Expect the unexpected. Something will inevitably go wrong—but it’s all part of the journey. Handling each challenge one step at a time ensures smoother transitions.
  3. Let go of material possessions. Downsizing and embracing a life with fewer belongings has been incredibly freeing.

For those considering RV life, Jamison’s advice is simple: “Just do it!” There is no perfect time, and waiting for everything to fall into place may mean missing out on an incredible experience. He encourages aspiring RVers to do their research, connect with others in the RV community, and embrace the adventure with an open heart.

Another unexpected yet heartwarming aspect of RV life has been the encouragement they receive from fellow travelers. Strangers have continuously praised their decision to give their son an immersive, experience-based education—a reminder of the deep impact full-time RVing can have.

Looking Ahead

As they continue their journey, the Torres family is excited to keep exploring, meeting new people, and making lifelong memories. Whether trekking through national parks, learning about history firsthand, or simply enjoying time together as a family, they are grateful for the freedom and adventure that RV life provides.
