Life In The RV Blog: A Jayco Family of Companies Pathfinder Embracing the RV Lifestyle

From Settled to Roaming: How It All Began

For Mary and Tim Walker, life took a dramatic shift in June of 2017. After moving from Florida to Kansas to be closer to their grandkids, they realized something surprising—they actually saw their family more when they traveled. With loved ones spread across the U.S., from Buffalo to California and Arizona, it became clear that staying in one place wasn’t the best way to stay connected.

Tragedy also played a role in their decision. Mary’s sister and her husband had always talked about traveling, but they never got the chance before passing away in their 50s. That wake-up call, paired with watching a neighbor rent an RV, sparked an idea. Instead of waiting for “someday,” they sold the house, bought an RV, and hit the road. Eight years later, they’re still loving every minute of full-time RV life in their 2022 Jayco Seneca Prestige 37M.

The Freedom of Full-Time RVing

Before RV life, Mary and Tim followed the familiar routine—homeownership, yard work, and the never-ending cycle of daily responsibilities. But the more they traveled, the more they realized they were missing out on experiences and family time.

With their motorhome, they found the perfect balance. They could visit family without feeling like they were overstaying their welcome. They had the flexibility to stay as long as they wanted while still having their own space. Plus, they no longer had to worry about home maintenance, allowing them to travel as often as they pleased.

Mary, a travel content creator, has also turned their adventures into a passion-driven career. Their travels are more than just sightseeing; they’re about discovering hidden gems, sharing stories, and inspiring others to embrace the RV lifestyle.

The Joy of the Journey: Favorite Destinations

Over the past eight years, Mary and Tim have explored some of the most breathtaking places in the U.S. Each stop brings new discoveries, but a few destinations stand out as unforgettable highlights:

  • Theodore Roosevelt National Park – One of their most awe-inspiring experiences was encountering wild horses roaming free. Watching them move across the vast prairie, untamed and majestic, was a moment they’ll never forget.
  • Yellowstone National Park – They’ve visited multiple times, always drawn back by the park’s raw beauty, from bubbling geysers to the iconic roaming bison.
  • Sedona, Arizona – The red rock landscapes felt like something out of a painting. Days were spent hiking canyons and soaking in the spiritual energy of the area.
  • Mount Rushmore – More than just a tourist stop, standing before the massive carved faces gave them a deep appreciation for history and the freedom they have embraced on the road.

Life on the Road: More Than Just Travel

One of the biggest surprises of full-time RVing has been the incredible community they’ve found. Fellow RVers share an unspoken bond—a love for adventure, an openness to new experiences, and a willingness to help one another. Whether it’s swapping travel tips at a campsite or making new friends around a campfire, Mary and Tim have gained an extended family on the road.

Their travel style is a mix of planning and spontaneity. While some destinations require careful scheduling, they also love the thrill of unplanned detours—some of their best memories have come from those unexpected stops.

Keeping track of their travels is part of the fun, too. From blogging to social media, they document their experiences to share with others and to look back on their incredible journey.

Lessons from the RV Life

While full-time RVing has been a dream come true, there are things Mary and Tim wish they had known before starting:

  • Stay Organized – Living in a small space means clutter builds up fast. Mastering minimalist living early on makes life much easier.
  • Campground Surprises – Not all RV parks are created equal. Learning to research ahead of time helped them avoid unexpected disappointments.
  • Flexibility is Key – Things don’t always go as planned—weather, mechanical issues, or even just changing moods can shift a trip. Being open to change has made the journey even more enjoyable.

Advice for Aspiring RVers

For those considering the full-time RV lifestyle, Mary and Tim have one key piece of advice: Keep it simple and stay flexible.

  • Rent before you buy to test out different RV styles.
  • Don’t over-plan—some of the best experiences happen when you go with the flow.
  • Embrace the lifestyle as more than just a vacation. It’s about finding joy in the journey, not just the destination.

Final Thoughts: A Life Well Traveled

For Mary and Tim Walker, the RV lifestyle has transformed how they view home, adventure, and connection. It’s taught them to appreciate simplicity, embrace the unknown, and most importantly, spend their time doing what truly matters—making memories with loved ones and experiencing the beauty of the world, one mile at a time.

They wouldn’t trade this life for anything. And as long as there’s an open road ahead, they’ll keep exploring, one adventure at a time.
