Planning an RV trip with your dogs can be a lot of work. To make sure you have a great trip, you want to make sure to pack all the things you need for your dogs! Here are a few tips on what we do when packing our RV for a weekend getaway with our dogs!
Essential Items for Your Dogs
Food and Water: Figure out how much food you will need for your dogs, and pack it in an airtight container. I usually pack extra food just to be safe. When it comes to water, we bring a pitcher that filters water, and we filter our dog’s water. You also want to make sure if your dogs are on any supplements you bring those along as well!
Leashes, Collars, and Tags: Make sure you grab all your leashes and collars, with proper id tags of course! We usually bring a few short leashes, and long leashes, and then one extra-long training leash, that we use to let the dogs go swimming. Remember, most campgrounds and states have leash laws! Please obey them!
Medications: If your dogs are on any medications, don’t forget to bring those!
First Aid Kit: Speaking of medications, don’t forget your dog first aid kit! I make my own, and I check it every 6 months to make sure all the things inside are still good. We bring things for upset dog tummies, for calming them down, we also bring things in case they get stung by a bee! Yes, it has happened!
Toys and Treats: Bring along a few toys for your dogs, and of course some treats!
Indoor and Outdoor Beds: We have a few beds we pack inside the RV for when we are hanging out inside, but we also have a few really nice outdoor beds, for when we are chilling outside!
Containment for Outside: Some people like to use metal fencing to contain their dogs outside of their RV, always check with the park you are staying at to see if this is allowed. Some people use tie-outs. We use a picket line for our dogs. Whatever you use, don’t forget to pack it!
Cleaning Supplies: Accidents happen! Sometimes their tummy is upset from travel, sometimes they find something to eat they shouldn’t have. We bring a carpet cleaner, extra paper towels, and other cleaning supplies just in case!
If your dogs aren’t used to traveling in an RV, make sure you take the time to get them used to your rig. Before you even take off, let them explore it while it’s parked. Plan on stopping every 3 hours to give your dogs a break. They need to stretch their legs just like we do! Always check the rules for the campgrounds and places you plan to stop to make sure your dogs can come too!
Following these few tips can help make your weekend trip with your dogs more enjoyable! The biggest tip we have though, is for you to have fun! Don’t stress out, take it slow, and remember to have a good time! Now get out there and make memories with your dogs!
